2017 MFT Street Improvement Program
Baxter & Woodman provided design and construction engineering services for $3.4M improvements to 1.9 miles of residential roadways within the Village.
The existing rural cross section in this residential area was deteriorated and in need of full reconstruction. Baxter & Woodman designed a new urban cross section with curb and gutter and sidewalks with ADA-compliant crosswalks. The vertical grade was lowered by as much as two feet in some areas to improve drainage from private properties and ensure stormwater was directed to the new enclosed storm system. Decorative brick paver sidewalks were placed at intersection corners and along a new bike route and 19 decorative light poles and luminaires were installed matching the Village’s overall vision for the neighborhood.
New water main was installed, new storm sewer was constructed, and sanitary sewer spot repairs were completed. Storm sewer modeling, wetland delineation, floodplain compensatory storage, and IEPA permitting were required for the improvements.
Two parking lots were rehabilitated to provide better delineated parking stalls and provide safe access to the neighboring parks. Existing parking was maintained throughout the summer to accommodate Little League games and pavilion rentals at Lions Park.
