Now's the Time to Pitch Your Projects! The last Federal Transportation Act, SAFETEA-LU, is set to expire on September 30, 2009. Efforts are underway in Congress to develop the next Act. The new Federal Transportation Bill will cover funding and implementation for a wide range of transportation related projects over the next several years. Now is the time to be involved and have your voice heard. This ongoing effort will help projects obtain prioritization and potential funding. Local officials have begun to prepare lists, set priorities and host listening sessions on projects to include in the bill. Some Congressmen established early deadlines for initial requests; however, with ongoing economic issues, it's not too late to pitch your projects. Inform your local U.S. Representative of your transportation project funding needs and ask them to help you improve your community.
Contact your Congressional Representative and provide them with a listing of your top priority transportation projects in need of funding. Contact information for U.S. Representatives is available at http://www.house.gov/house/MemberWWW_by_State.shtml#il. |
